We got up bright and early to go to the Hoito (too busy on the weekends, so we waited until today) - mmm, Eggs 'n Bacey on my Finnish Pancakey. If I lived here, I'd have to do constant hiking to counteract the Hoito. Anyway, I took a picture of my breakfast and sent it to faraway, sad coworkers who had to work - hahah!
After gorging on pancakes, we went to Future Shop to see if we could pick up some additional RAM for Monica's laptop. We found out the kind of RAM we needed, but they didn't carry it in the 1GB size. Now, 2GB is as cheap as 1GB, so it's harder to find the slightly older pieces of hardware. However, there was a computer repair shop within walking distance - they also didn't have any NEW RAM that would work. What they did have, however, were lots of cast off pieces of RAM (left behind when people upgraded), and we were able to find the right kind for her laptop. So, now she's up to 2GB of RAM (up from 512MB), and her computer is much happier.
Then we went to look around the University. Most of the classes are out, so we took a peek at some of the classrooms and buildings. The grounds around the campus are nice. I notice a lot more running water in TBay - lots of little creeks, even in residential neighbourhoods, whereas in Saskatoon, we've got the river running through the city, without any kind of little tributaries.
Since the morning was a bit overcast, but rain didn't seem imminent, we decided to go out to Fort William. To our surprise, we found that we had to go on tours (vs just wandering around and exploring on our own). Apparently, it's not high season - high season starts on June 27 (five days from now). During high season, they're fully staffed and you can just wander, although admission is also higher at that time. We weren't too happy about the prospects of a tour, but it worked out okay. We had a good tour guide, and the children weren't too obnoxious, and those who couldn't keep up didn't try but just held back and joined in when they could.
Some adorable animals in the farmyard. There was the sweetest little lamb being bottle fed by the staff - it was one of a set of triplets, but the mothers usually don't accept more than two lambs, so it had been rejected. It was SO sweet, though. Lambs trip along on their little hoofed feet and are just ridiculously cute.
And there were three little piglets! Oh, they're so cute! I can't believe they grow up to be so big and hairy. But when they're pink little piggies, they're very sweet. They were quite curious - they'd come over to see what you were doing, but if you go near them, they all run away, then they stop and turn around and look back at you, and eventually came wandering back to watch us.
We went through a number of buildings in the fort - found the canoe-making especially interesting. And, in the gaol, they now have a recording playing in the back cell. We walked in there, and we heard this quiet, desperate little voice. "Let me out! Let me out! I'll make the canoes for you, I will!" Monica was off like a shot and running out the door before we'd figured out it was a recording.
After the tour was over, we were able to wander around a bit on our own, which was nice. The cloudy day ended up being perfect, because it was still pretty warm outside, and we'd have baked under a clear sky.
We returned to TBay for supper at Applebee's (which, for some reason, we don't have here. Why does TBay have things we don't have?). After that, we just lounged around in the evening, which was very nice. That's the whole point of vacation, isn't it?
