Last Day in TBay

Today was the first day we actually slept in, which was nice.  All of us got up late.  Joseph thought we left without him.  Ha ha ha!  If only we'd thought of it!  ;-)

It was hot already by early morning, so Monica set up the hammock in the back yard.  I tried it out - it's a bit more cocoon than hammock (it's missing the poles at either end that keep the fabric from turning you into a banana), but that's good, because there's no midday shade in her back yard.

Then, Monica decided it was time to put us to work.  She needed some halogen bulbs changed in her ceiling fixture in the kitchen.  Teetering on top of a ladder, Stephen and I fiddled with it for a while before my brain finally kicked in and said "Hey, dingbat!  There are four bulbs here!  Four bulbs wouldn't burn out all at once."  So, we took a closer look at the wiring, only to find that it has very weird wiring indeed.  There's a remote wired to a plug in the ceiling.  We think that when Simba famously knocked over the bookshelf upstairs, it jarred the wiring loose.  We tightened the wiring, then replaced one burned-out bulb and the batteries in the remote, and it worked again.  The hardest part was securing it back to the ceiling - it's really hard holding your hands over your head forever.

Today, we did lots of her errands.  We drove to the post office to pick up her Ebay "win" (three Fisher Price dollies from our childhood).  Then we went to the liquor store to return all of her booze bottles.  There are towers and towers of empty booze bottles in her house.  Mountains, even.  This probably means something.  (Drunkard.)  The liquor store was crowded as people were stocking up on liquor before the pending strike.  (City of drunkards.)  Speaking of strikes, I bought two boxes of Limey here, just in case I can't get it back home, since the Coke drivers are on strike.  (Cokehead.)

Next stop was to drop off her dry cleaning, then on to the Intercity Mall to look around at the stores, and eat at the food court.  We did a little shopping at a few stores near the Hoito.  It was steaming hot outside, so it was a pleasant relief to step into some air conditioned shops.  I probably shouldn't have (since it conflicts with my theoretical "saving money" plan), but I bought myself a skirt.

Monica also volunteered us to help fix Judith & Chris' home wireless network.  We looked at the one computer, and I screamed "Ack!  This is Vista!"  So, I ceded that computer to Stephen, and I went upstairs to look at the other computer, which had XP, but only 512MB of RAM, so it was really slow.  Took us a while, but we got almost everything updated.  Judith & Chris then took us all out to supper at Kelsey's, which we followed up with an ice cream at (you guessed it!) Merla Mae's.

The nice thing about hot days is that the evenings are just about perfect.  So, taking advantage of the nice weather, Monica had us fixing her deck, Stephen hauling rocks into her flower bed, and getting her rain barrel set up properly.

Ahh, vacation.  :-)
