The weather seemed a bit iffy today, but we took a chance and went to the Calgary Zoo. I was expecting to go on Deerfoot and exit on Memorial, but Tomtom took us a very peculiar route which ended up taking us to the West entrance of the Zoo (which seems to be the back end). On the positive side, it appears to be a much less used entrance, so there was parking, and not too many people in front of us.
We got lots of pictures of animals ignoring us. Caribou eating, with their backs turned to us. Tigers walking away. That kind of thing. We did see the baby elephant – so cute! – and learned that because elephant poachers in Africa and India will kill elephants for their tusks, now elephants are now being born without tusks (because the tusk-less ones are the only ones safe from poachers). Natural selection in action!
The Amazon Rainforests exhibit was SO hot and humid (no surprised). Although the clouds had cleared outside and it was a hot and sunny day, it felt cool by comparison.
After the zoo, we went to Chinook Mall to eat. Stephen and I continued our mountain climbing diet by buying cinnamon buns from CinnZeo. Yuuummmm.
I did stop in at Sephora to look at the makeup, because one of my friends said it was “to die for.” Picked up a lipstick, and said, “25?!?!” And then turned on my heel and out I went.
Then we went home at about 4:15 p.m., hoping to avoid rush-hour traffic. Too late. MacLeod Trail was total gridlock. The light would go green, but there was nowhere to go. We crawled along, while old men with walkers zoomed past us on the sidewalk.
Later on, we met Sarah and George (& Robert) for supper at Boston Pizza. Robert was wearing his Junior Lifeguard hat. I remain skeptical about his ability to save me from drowning.
That evening, Fergie got in Stephen’s bad books by pooing in the house, then wiping her butt on his shirt (he's SO grumpy!). Later on, she decided to eat another coaster – soapstone this time! She’s lucky she’s such a cutie-patootie doggie.
