Rocks and Trees and Water

When else (except when travelling) can you get away with having Hickory Sticks and a Slurpee (along with a few bites of beef jerky) for breakfast.  Yum.  Sugar and salt - all the essential ingredients for health.

Well, I have to say Kenora is a much prettier town than Dryden - very glad we stayed there yesterday!  Kenora was kind of resort town, on the lake, lots of prettiness.  Dryden has a great big Weyerhauser, with steam and smoke billowing out.  It also took quite a while to get there - single lane, winding roads, lots of hills.  Definitely increases the travel time.

You know how small towns sometimes have weird little statues and things out front?  Passed this place somewhere in between Kenora and Dryden, and there was this big oversized figure - pitch black, with bright white eyes and teeth, giving a thumbs-up gesture with a grimacing/threatening smile.  And wearing a green loincloth.  WTF?  I don't know WTF.  I just don't know.  We kept driving.

A few little places that didn't show up on our map.  Wabigoon.  I laughed, and said, "Wabigoon is a stupid name!"  And then realized that people who live in Saskatoon shouldn't laugh at the people in Wabigoon.  (Wabigoons?  Wabigonians?)

Other than that, there's a whole lot of rocks and trees and water (just like it says in that song by the Arrogant Worms), and not a whole lot in between.  Some campgrounds, some deer, and lotso Inukshuks.

For a while, there was a caravan of about three vehicles, one with AB plates, one with BC, and us representing SK, and we were passing all the ONs.  We discovered that Manitoba's slogan should be "fastest of them all".  We tend to be a bit lead-footed, but those Manitobans just consistently blow us away.

Our navigator was getting quite confused at times - don't know whether it was the changes in elevation or what, but every now and again, it would get confused and show us floating off in never-never-land beside the highway.  And then it would reset itself.  But very very handy in the cities - I don't know if I'd have found Monica's house otherwise!

Gotta go!  We ordered pizza, and it's here!
